(DALLAS, Texas, June 26, 2006)—The Texas Press Association held its 127th Summer Convention June 24 in The Woodlands, Texas. Park Cities People swept awards across nearly a dozen categories. The newspaper won the coveted General Excellence Award and earned enough points to win the Sweepstakes — a full 300 points ahead of other competing large weekly newspapers. For the thirteenth year, the Texas Press Association named Park Cities People the “Best Weekly Newspaper in Texas”.
Park Cities People received awards for the Texas Press Association's 2006 Texas Better Newspaper Contest in the following categories:
General Excellence: 1st Place Sports Coverage: 1st Place (Scott Farrell, sports editor)
News Writing: 1st Place (Jessica Hoover and Paige Phelps: “Teachers, Students Offended by HPHS Spirit Week Costumes”)
Editorials: 1st Place (Glenn Arbery, senior editor, for “What’s as bad as Robin Hood?” and Wick Allison, publisher, for “Equity — NOT Equality”)

Park Cities People celebrates its 25th anniversary in September 2006. People Newspapers is comprised of eight weekly community newspapers.
Park Cities People was started in 1981. People Newspapers launched seven additional newspapers in September 2004: Preston Hollow People, Turtle Creek People, Bluffview People, Lakewood People, Lake Highlands People, Bent Tree People, and West Plano People.
